Trees are best fed along the perimeter of the crown. In young trees, small suction roots are shallow compared to adults, so we just close the fertilizer deeper.

To bring fertilizers to mature trees, pits about 50 cm deep are drilled around the perimeter of the crown, with a distance between the pits of about half a meter. If the soil is moist and soft enough not to drill holes, you can make holes in the ground with a small pointed crowbar and pour the fertilizer solution into them.

September is a good time for planting fruit crops. We plant berry bushes and pome trees (apple and pear). Seedlings purchased with an open root system must be without foliage. When buying, special attention should be paid to the root system. It should be branched and not dried. Even if planting is carried out immediately after acquisition, it is useful to dip the roots in a clay mash with Kornevin or Heteroauxin. This procedure will protect the roots from drying out after planting.

Over the summer, we always see the errors made in the preparation of compositions. In September, transplanting even adult plants within the garden is successful. We protect decorative ponds from falling foliage with a fine mesh. Before installing the grid, we cut off all aquatic plants. If possible, we clean the bottom of the pond from all bottom sediments. Stretching the net, be sure to leave passages for frogs and toads.

We add compost, humus, weathered bottom peat to all vacated ridges. High-moor sphagnum peat improves the structure of clay soils very well. It is acidic, so we add deoxidizers together with peat. All organic additives must be mixed with the soil.

Digging or loosening enough with a flat cutter depends on the mechanical composition of the soil. Heavy clays will not give up just like that, the surface application of organics will not improve the structure of such soil, so it makes sense to dig up clay, embedding organics by 20-30 cm and only with a pitchfork, not a shovel. We sow green manure on the prepared soil. They rise quickly.

We cut off the green mass of green manure with a sharp flat cutter or oblique, leave the roots in the ground. The "tops" will serve as a good winter mulch for the soil, and the "roots" will overheat, improving its structure.

On uncultivated soils, a “portable composter-ridge” helps out. The box is put in place in the fall, filled with plant debris, chopped branches, sawdust, manure, mowed grass. In the spring, we pour a little ready-made soil into a portable composter-ridge and plant cucumbers, pumpkins, and zucchini. In autumn, the box is moved to a new location. The compost created in this way is used for its intended purpose, and soil suitable for planting remains in place of the box.

At the end of the month we plant winter garlic. True, in recent years, autumn has become long and warm, so planting can be postponed to early October.

September is an active time for harvesting and summing up the summer season of 2016. At the beginning of the month we dig up root crops: beets, potatoes, carrots, from the middle - pumpkin, zucchini and cabbage.

Time for pruning faded perennials: bluebells, delphiniums, daylilies, irises, phlox, astrantia, dicenter. Astilbes and peonies, as well as some varieties of hostas, will retain a beautiful decorative appearance for a long time, so they should be pruned as they are lost.

It's getting colder outside and the cauliflower hasn't finished forming heads yet? The situation can be improved. To do this, well-leafy plants with heads 4-6 cm in size should be selected and transplanted into a greenhouse or basement.

One or two days before digging cabbage, it should be generously watered. You need to dig carefully, transfer with an earthen clod, install in a new place obliquely or vertically, right next to each other. The roots must be sprinkled with moist soil to the base of the leaves.

Light for cabbage during growing is not the most important thing. Moreover, in a greenhouse, plants need to be shaded. The temperature is acceptable even at 1-3 degrees: the warmer, the faster the heads grow, but they can crumble.

For the next harvest

Pumpkin holes can be made in early autumn. Dig spacious holes, put dry grass, leaves, food waste in them - let everything rot.

In the spring, it remains to cover the unripe compost with a layer of earth and sow the soaked seeds - the pumpkin in such holes will be warm and satisfying. Especially if the top of the pit is covered from return spring frosts with plastic wrap or other suitable material.

Improve the greenhouse

Growing tomatoes in the same greenhouse for several years in a row is undesirable. Previously, they were alternated with cucumbers. But now both of them began to get sick with anthracnose - one of the varieties of root rot. Therefore, after harvesting, the soil for the next crop will have to be disinfected.

To do this, the top layer of soil is removed from the greenhouse - 10-12 cm. Then the remaining soil is sprayed with a hot solution of copper sulfate (a tablespoon per 10 liters of water) or oxychoma (a tablet per 5 liters of water). And then a new, disease-treated soil is brought into the greenhouse.

Not all yet

In September, it's time to bring home indoor plants that have spent the summer outdoors: the big difference in day and night temperatures is not good for them. But Schlumbergers (zygocactus) and ripsalidopsis (evergreen epiphytic shrubs of the cactus family) can not be touched for now. For them, such temperature changes are a balm for the soul and contribute to abundant flowering in December.
